About the Johns Island Council

The Johns Island Council is a volunteer group of citizens that serves as a liaison between island residents. Members include Johns Island residents, property owners, business owners, and an appointed voting representative from Wadmalaw Island. All members are volunteers.

The Johns Island Council regularly communicates residents’ perspectives on transportation, facilities, and infrastructure projects. Its members also attend public hearings to express support for community concerns about specific development projects, zoning and environmental ordinances, and other matters affecting island residents.

The Johns Island Council also hosts monthly presentations by civic groups, developers, municipal planners, local fire safety personnel, police, and City and County officials. It provides forums for candidates at its regular monthly meetings, all of which affect Johns Island.

The Johns Island Council does not endorse any political candidates; forums are for informational purposes only.

Additionally, the Council provides scholarships for students within the Johns Island community and works through its Community Assistance Committee to provide residents with resources for personal needs.
